CLIP

CLIP is the world’s first plug-and-play device to upgrade any bike into an e-bike. At its core, CLIP is a more sustainable and accessible alternative to the way e-bikes are currently designed, built and promoted. Every year, more over-engineered e-bikes—built for ultra-performance in terms of speed and range—are launched with a hefty price tag, putting e-bikes at risk to become the new SUV of our cities.

When asking bike commuters to design the perfect e-bike for their urban errands, their aspirations raised a few design questions:
Is it a right sized solution for my ride in terms of performance and price?
How easy would it be to replace my bike with an e-bike for my daily commute?

These are simple yet powerful questions to determine the future path of urban mobility. In the US, half of all urban trips are less than 6 miles with a cost per mile of 54 cents when traveled by car. CLIP is a compact device, designed on a 96Wh battery with a range of 12 miles. It also includes an innovative regenerative braking system to recharge the battery while riding. CLIP is 5 times less expensive than the average e-bike.

Without requiring any tools or pre-installation, our patented universal attachment mechanism allows CLIP to instantly latch on to the 2 billion bikes already in circulation. CLIP doesn’t further extract from our limited resources by producing a new bike. Rather, CLIP keeps the existing ones out of the landfill. Finally, CLIP seamlessly blends into commuters’ lifestyles by preserving the design and aesthetics of a classic analog bicycle and the joy of the ride.

In 2023, more than 200 early adopters conquered their local hills, bridge ramps, or cruised their last mile to work with CLIP in more than 40 states in the US. CLIP is listed as TIME - 100 Best Inventions of the Year and Best Product Design by Fast Company. CLIP also won the Keeling Curve Prize, Core 77 Design Award, and Micromobility Best Startup of 2023, underscoring CLIP’s potential to generate major social and environmental impact.
