Makina Andras_I

In an industry where 3-handed rectangular watches are almost always art deco inspired dress watches, Makina Watches builds theirs as a sports watch designed to give the category something bold and more contemporary when it launched Andras_I.

Born to be the black sheep of the category, Andras_I is designed to look imposing from every angle, hence the angular shapes that make up its multifaceted case. It is coated in intense black with a combination of high gloss and brush textured surfaces for a more robust and premium finish. The edges are crisp and well defined without compromising comfort. Its octagonal shape is purposefully designed to taper around a larger, circular movement helping to keep it down to wearable dimensions for the average male wrist. It measures at 33mm wide, 44mm lug to lug, and only 10.5mm thick. The back is uniquely flat for higher comfort and displays the movement in color gold, true to Makina’s brand colors. The silicone strap is thick, muscular and with depth echoing Andras_I’s chiseled case and layered dial. The crown is easy to use despite a very simple and own-able shape that is consistent with crowns found in our new models.

The multi-layered, 3-dimensional symmetry found in Andras_I’s dial is a must have for all Makina models. The middle layer displays minute and hour markers that are made up of hand polished metallic indices which mirror the shape of its sword-like hands, painted blue for higher legibility under all lighting environments. The elliptical shape that carves into the bottom layer for the seconds markers offset on an oval racetrack is meant to give it a face that’s unique to Andras_I. The dial’s round shapes in contrast with the case’s angular shapes bring an element of unpredictability to its overall design.

Makina marries thoughtful design with quality finish and premium components at an affordable price; PVD coated surgical grade 316L stainless steel, AR coated sapphire crystal glass, thick silicone strap with deployant clasp, 50m water resistance and a movement found in luxury timepieces (Sellita SW 260-1) at USD 725.
